Transition

Being a Toddler+ allows me to mix with older children I can try their more challenging puzzles and games and I like that.
Now I am bigger I can do more things than my Toddler friends. In Toddler+ there are new things to try. I like snipping and sticking lots of different things and playing with the little cars, animals and people that would be too tricky for the Toddlers.

Transition was created to help prepare the older children for the move between Toddlers and Kindergarten. It is a smaller group of children who are being offered more structured opportunities and 1:1, child: adult, activities in preparation for Kindergarten. We plan alongside the Kindergarten team using the Early Years Foundation Stage. This ensures a wide variety of fun; stimulating activities with a sound educational and developmental focus are promoted.

We operate within a daily routine which offers the children times of:

• Free play - child initiated and undirected
• Structured Play - adult supported and specifically focused
• Creative activities - using a variety of media and resources
• Large and small group activities
• Individual activities - with an adult supporting a child inidvidually to develop specific needs
• Outdoor play

Examples of these types of activities would include…

• Messy play with Gloop or baked beans
• Collage making
• Cooking
• Painting with a variety of implements
• Construction such as Duplo
• Puzzles and threading
• Books
• Mark making in a variety of medium
• Games

and lots of outdoor fun including…

• Playing on the bikes
• Playing in the tunnels
• Enjoying the sprinkler
  

We also take lots of other activities outside whatever the weather so the children can experience exploring a range of environments. We often incorporate local community features into our planning by going on trips to the shops and exploring the park.
